Does the AP make a difference??

Mar 21, 2005 3:49AM PST

I am running a DLINK DI-614+ wireless router connected to a DLINK 15dbi omni antenna (ATN24-1500) for a wireless hotspot using a DLINK DSA-3100 hotspot gateway. My signals cannot be received even at close distances. I have been told that the DI-614+ may not be able to drive the omni very well. Could this be a factor? Can a different AP give better results? Does D versus G make a difference?

That device has an output of 15dBm - an AP with a higher transmit power will provide a better signal as long as your antenna is rated for it - or a signal booster might help.
I'm starting to doubt the reliablity of DI-614+'s. I've had a couple for a year or so and the signal is now so weak I need a direct line of sight to maintain a connection.
