Question

Does my new monitor have clouding?

Jul 11, 2018 5:05PM PDT

Hi everyone bought an Viewsonix XG2402 monitor and I ran a test where I put a black image on my screen and the black screen shows some slightly brighter blotches like these. Should I return it?

Answer
ALL LCDs have some clouding.

If you want to show how much you put up a grey image and run it from 0 to 100% from black to white. No LCD I've seen was perfect.

Now let me see your image. Yup. Perfect test to show the same issue with LCD displays. This is usually hard to see in real use but if you find a perfectionist you have to show them an OLED next.

I play usually dark colour games like Grim Dawn, Diablo etc. But this screen have brighter blotches bothered me. I can not focus the game because always see white blotches on the screen my normal viewing angle.

Then you need a better display.

My bet is you may not get them to agree it's a defect. I've seen a lot of LCDs and most will show clouding under the conditions and tests that highlight this.

Plasma displays were about the best and with those no longer in production the OLED displays are what's next.
