General discussion

does Mr Kerry know about this? (and is it true?)

Feb 13, 2004 1:04AM PST

The Tides Foundation and its closely allied Tides Center, which was spun off from the Foundation in 1996 but run by Drummond Pike, distributed nearly $66 million in grants in 2002 alone. In all, Tides has distributed more than $300 million for the Left. These funds went to rabid antiwar demonstrators, anti-trade demonstrators, domestic Islamist organizations, pro-terrorists legal groups, environmentalists, abortion partisans, extremist homosexual activists and open borders advocates.

C'mon Jonah -- that article and the site on which it sits are just about as rabid on the right as any group referred to on the left! There isn't even a hint of balance in the piece -- or on the site, for that matter.

Hi Del:

The onslaught I've seen in this forum makes me think the Bush supporters are really, really worried that Kerry can win this race.

If enough people are unaware of his real voting record...
Feb 13, 2004 3:54AM PST

his real service record, his real aid to Hanoi, his flip-flops and contradictions, his outright lies about his medals, his close friendship with Ramsey Clark, and a plethora of other things they may vote for him for what he says rather than what he does or will do.

A little looking around will show you that the only thing Kerry has shown "Special Interests" who offer him funds is the welcome mat despite what he appears to be telling potential voters.

Come on Dave, all you have to do is go top their site(s)

So, do what I do (and did here)
Feb 13, 2004 4:33AM PST

1. Read the first paragraph. Hum, seems to be a right slant.

2. Look at the sidebars and ads on the page. Definitely a right slant.

3. Put on right slant filter.

4. Read carefully. Make note of individuals and organizations mentioned. What do I already know of them?

Assess overall article. Were there enough facts to warrant further consideration. Based on names I knew, yes there is.

5. Search for Tides Foundation

6. Read first paragraph. Detect a left slant

7. check for sidebars and ads. Possible reinforcement of left slant.

8. Put on left slant filter.

9. Read carefully. Note total lack of specifics any where. Only after getting several links deep do I start seeing names and organizations mentioned in the first article. But I detect many, many left slant codewords and phrases.

Conclusions:
The first article is rabidly right slanted, but is filled with easily verifiable facts, names and organizational references.
The Tides site is carefully veiled, but obviously left slanted. They do mention affiliation or assistance to some of the organizations named by Frontpage.

Verdict:
There is enough there to legitimately infer that the Tides Foundation is a conduit for money to left wing causes.

The above was written before Ed's post. I had a connection problem and could not post it then. Ed's Pittsburg link makes it obvious that Tides is supporting organizations that support Kerry's Presidential bid. The implications of that will require some more thought.

Left belief = blame it on something else
right belief = accept personal responsibility

Left belief = World owes me a living
Right belief = If I want it I need to work for it

Left belief = if he has it he needs to share with me
Right belief = if it is mine keep your hand out of my pocket

Left belief = Party of the poor
Right belief = Left had an interest in keeping the poor poor

Left belief = If there is a problem throw money at it and hire more bureaucrats to throw it
Right belief = Major problem is too many bureaucrats handling the money

Left belief = government should provide everything from cradle to grave
Right belief = government should restrict itself to enabling us to provide for ourselves

Left belief = If you are well off you should pay the rest of our way and if you get anything in return you shouldn't
Right belief = Those who are well off owe no more percentage wise than those who are not but who get the most benefits

Left belief = a fair tax rebate returns more money to those who paid no tax than to those who did and calling it a tax cut for the wealthy
Right belief = it is not a rebate, but welfare when a government gives tax money taken from those who paid back to those who did not pay

In case serious at all

In US politics reference here in speakeasy, a rough translation

left-liberal-Democrat-more centralized federal control-social programs priority-generally pro-choice(regarding abortion)- against the death penality.

And some claim they are the only progressive ones too.

right-conservative-Republican-business oriented- smaller federal government (verbally, nowadays they all grow government)- prolife(want more abortion restriction)- pro death penality in theory at least

Of course, that is oversimplified, and some groups only loosely allied with either Republican or Democrat.

Great comments Dave. I like less rabid and more balance. Now,

can we expect you to apply that to yourself?

Another conservative biased site, but don't expect our mainstream to pick up on any of this kind of thing. It would be too much to ask that the "special interest" connections of both sides were equally scrutinized.

Steeped in self-righteous arrogance itself, the screed insists that the September 11 attacks were not an act of war; EII sheds a tear instead for these oppressed peoples communicating their anger at the root cause of a capitalist, globalist society the only way they knew how.

Ho! Ho! So Kerry isn't a capitalist with all his business interests and wealth - That organisation really takes the biscuit, what hypocrites.
