General discussion

Does it make you wonder???

If you view the "Antiques Roadshow" that something that looks like it does is worth huge X-dollars. If you knew nothing of the object being displayed and had to guess, would you even come close to the experts price? Of course, it has to be the real deal to worth anything of value, but some objects seem to grab the big bucks not giving the owner any clue to real value.

Yeah, I watch it now and then and have become just as interested in that parting discussions when they signoff with show visitors comments of their wares and found value. -----Willy Happy

We have a similar tv show over here and if I watch it I am mainly interested in what is aesthetically pleasing to me.

Those items are more often than not worthless!

maybe because

what you like is what everyone else did too, and the rest was tossed as junk, until it caused rarity of the object and suddenly it was considered valuable.

I have no idea how some of those appraisers

could have actually seen so much old stuff. As I understand it, buyers of that junk are such a fickle lot that what they'll pay can vary from week to week. I won't buy anything just to look at and cannot understand why anyone would. If I can't wear it, fix something with it, sit on it, eat it, etc., I ain't buyin' it. Happy

practical stuff is what I value most. I still don't understand why people are so attracted to jewels they are willing to pay a huge price for them.

What they rarely show. One of a kind, gone forever.
