does hdmi board up-convert standard def to high def

i load movies and tv shows to a external hard drive, in standard def. then watch on hd tv.
if i buy computer with hdmi, will it upconvert my showes to high def. i have a 1080p tv.

The HDTV will use any resolution that both the Vid card and TV can natively support. So if your Vid card and TV both support 1080p (1920x1080) then yes your tv will show your computer output at that resolution.

Will the quality of the Video improve, No.
