does GPS cell phone use both towers & satelites for transmission

I have a T-Mobile service with GPS technology and it does not connect well from inside my office building like my old service.

1. Do phones with GPS only use satelites ?

2. My daughter in a rural area (Quicksburg, Virginia) can not recieve on her regualr cell phone. Would a cell phone with GPS correct this ?

Thanks, Gene

GPS satelites are only for the position information. For voice, your phone contacts a cell 'base-station'.

I'll write no. You'll have to use a phone and service inside the area that is covered by a provider.
