SONY KDF-70xbr950 ?
Dec 5, 2005 12:56AM PST

The problem is that CRT's in genaral are bening droped from product lines. Panny is stopping production CRT sets. We are force feed that the "new techonoliges" are better. OK they are better for sales, higher proffits!!
The LCD/DLP/LCoS sets wieght less, cost less to ship.
A 32" CRT 200lbs, a 32" lcd 30lbs.
The only one on Sony's sit is the 51". My guess is that it looks as good as your 60" . John

70xbr950

I bought a 70xbr950 about 2 months ago. I placed it at the end of a 19 1/2 foot long by 16 1/2 foot wide room.

1. It has a protective glass cover over the screen which reflects everything during the day but is fine in a room with no windows and the lights off.

2. Analog TV is watchable(barely on some channels), but not the reason for buying this TV. Get another smaller TV for that.

3. When watching high def, this TV is absolutely incredible! I never imagined that a 70 inch TV could give such an incredibly beautiful picture! This is the reason for buying this TV!

4. In high def the colors are intensely rich, richer than I've ever seen before, especially when you remember that you're watching them on a 70-inch screen! Everything, hairs, facial lines, is sharper than I've ever seen before. The picture is incredibly bright, just as bright as the 60xbr950. I saw them side by side in a store, and was amazed that the 70-inch was as good as the 60 inch.

5. It does not take a cable card. You must get the high def cable box.

6. It really dominates the 16 1/2 by 19 1/2 inch room. It used to be "my" family room, but now it is truly the "TV's" family room.

Your Sony isn't CRT

Stewart,

CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube, and is what "direct view" TVs use. These type of TVs are typically 36" maximum in size. I think the Sony you are referring to is like my Toshiba, which is RPTV (Rear Projection TV), and it has a red, blue and green light that projects light onto the screen. This is different than "rear projection" DLP, LCD and Plasma types of TVs.

Is this Sony the TV you had before you bought your Toshiba? I thought you sold it on Ebay.

I stand partially corrected
Apr 4, 2006 3:00AM PDT

Stewart,

I stand corrected, because the red, blue and green light guns in the RPTV are sometimes referred to as CRT. But the big 70" RPTVs don't use a cathode ray tube like the traditional direct-view CRT sets do. That's what I was trying to clarify. Happy

I happen to have seven of them.

One in each room. They're pretty good. I'm looking for something bigger for the bathrooms though. I have a hard time taking a crap without watching TV.
