Does anyone know what this is?

by zeebell / August 21, 2005 5:52 AM PDT

Sygate tells us that NTKernel System (ntoskrnl.exe) is trying to send ICMP Type 8 (Echo request) packet to our PC.

Do I want to allow this? What is it?

I did a google search and one of the links indicates it is critical in the bootup process of our PC.

If so, why is our PC booting up ok without it?

ICMP echo request
by dawillie / August 21, 2005 6:39 AM PDT

type 8 is safe to allow.

there are 3 ICMP that are safe and should be allowed.

the rest can be blocked.

here is a definition of ICMP.

as your firewall is different from mine, I can only give you general information about what ICMP is and what it does.

if you need more, you should register at the Sygate Forum and ask the question there.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
