General discussion

Does anyone have any opinions on Overstock.com

May 29, 2007 1:39AM PDT

I've never purchased with them before and there is something I would like to get, however, the reviews on the store don't seem all that good.

I want to get a speaker system, overstock has it for $30 less than I can get it from Amazon (comes from J&R Music) I've bought with Amazon and I know they are good, but I would like to save the money if I can, since my order with Amazon is already over $300.

I'm willing to spend the extra money if I have to, but if I can save the money that would be great. I'm just worried I will not get the product and be out the money if I go with Overstock.

Has anyone had any expereinces with them?

Thanks

Average...

I've ordered from them a couple times and overall had a good experience...I received what was ordered on time and in perfect condition with the exception of one package that UPS misplaced...took a few extra days. No billing issues either so I can't comment on customer support. Just be sure to shop around...they have a tendency to overprice quite a bit, on electronics and jewelry at least.

Thanks for letting me know

That is good to hear, I think I may give them a try and see what happens.

I know what you mean with them overpricing, John. This particular speaker set is about $30 less than I can find anywhere else. But, they had another set that was less expensive, most places. The highest price I had seen for the second set was $20 and some were as low as $15 or so. Overstock is selling them for $50 or $60.

Thanks again!

Those are BIG price differentials.

Speakers can have hidden physical damage from rough handling. Overstock has a good reputation for selling quality products. I would be wary of those other places. What are their return policies?

It was just about every site...

WalMart, Circuit City, Amazon, etc. all had them for this price. If I recall correctly, I don't think they had listed the suggested price as high as overstock.

It was just an inexpensive speaker set, I even seen some in WalMart yesterday when I was shopping, I think it was $20 or so in the store as well.

So, they were all reputable, not sure why the big price difference. I'm sure if I look a little closer I could find a reason.

Used them once to buy some earrings for my wife...

Service was satisfactory and fast. They do send out a lot of spam though.

I wouldn't worry.

Shopping for lowest price only can make one go nuts

Prices from these dealers change constantly and so do the goods offered. I have found myself taking so long to make a decision that my item has been replaced with a newer....and often better....one. As well, once I have made my decision and purchased the item, I find myself rechecking all the sites for a lower price or more suitable product. It never fails. The price gets lower or I find something better. ARRGHHH! It's a game you cannot win. You can do well but you may never be totally satisfied.

My two cents. Happy

I guess I will give them a try and see what happens

Hopefully everything will be okay.

Normally price isn't much of an issue for me, I usually just go with the companies I already know and have used before with good experiences. But, I just bought a new car and a laptop, and a PSP, plus I need to get all the stuff for the PSP and I am saving up for a house, so I'm trying to save a little money where I can.

Thanks for your help everyone!

BTW, folks, I noticed a banner ad above SE

on occasion for buy.com, similar to Overstock, I think. Anyone know if they're honest, reliable, 'thrifty, brave, clean and reverent'?

Careful how you answer - it's a c|net property. Happy
