Document Scrambled

I am running Windows XP SP2, lately I need to open a document which was done on a Windows 3.1 machine using Microsoft Works back in 1993. I need to know how to open this document. The document loads but it is all scrambled un-readable. I tried to read it with Microsoft Works 6.0 still scrambled, tried Word, Notepad, etc nothing. These are important documents that my Husband needs for his business. Neither myself or my Husband can open these with our Computer. He's running Windows 2000. Need help!

Did you install any Works convertor?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q139869 notes it's not automatic and your post did not reveal what versions of Word you may have.

Give http://www.openoffice.org a try.
