If they are invisible, how do you know they are there?

are there gaps in the dock display?

I know they're there!

I know they're there because there's a gap, there's a blue light underneath if the app is open and the name comes up when I place the cursor over the space. But there is no icon.

<div>I've tried removing and replacing to no avail - I'll try resetting the PRAM and see if that does anything.
</div>
