General discussion

Do you think your smarter then President Bush?

Jul 22, 2007 6:14PM PDT

Resntly this question was asked on a national television show. Over 70% of the people polled said, yes. So, do you think your smarter then President Bush?

For you I'll rephrase the question.
Jul 22, 2007 8:16PM PDT

Do you, can you make better decisions then President Bush?

- Collapse -
Still an unfair question
Jul 22, 2007 9:18PM PDT

People who have more education or experience in various fields make better decisions than I do. I can make better ones in mine.

In general, others appear to be smarter in their decision making when they are in agreement with what we think we would decide. Thus judging if someone is "smarter" can be subjective.

The job of President is unique. No one has experience in this job till after his/her first term unless we start electing our Presidents from the pool of world leaders.

I noticed you very carefully avoided saying whether...

...you thought you were smarter than President Bush before other folks answered your question. But I'll make this observation. I'd bet some heavy money President Bush can spell "recently" and "respond" correctly and probably utilize the <preview post> function on this forum and possibly proofread his post. Don't you agree? What do you think about that?

Is spelling an indicater of smartitude?... Smartiness...
Jul 23, 2007 9:55PM PDT

...smartnessitude... smartilliantness... smartiligence...

I think I just broke my spell checker!

Grin

Seriously though, once I started learning a second language in high school my ability to spell went out the window. However, as Duckman said, only using a word incorrectly or assigning it the wrong meaning really demands admitting responsibility.

I defy you to find an instance where I unintentionally screwed it up.

The "your", and "you're" thing started when Ed began using it as an indicator of the credibility of my arguments when he couldn't counter them any other way. If the "credibility" of a statement is solely based on one's ability to speak properly, then President Bush is surely an "incredible" idiot. This is a disingenuous debate tactic and I have never adopted it (shooting fish in a barrel, don't ya know).

I have laughed the debate off myself There is a select group on SE however, who insist on taking a pot shot when they can't think of anything else to do, based on one's abilities to speak and write english correctly but always complaining when their mistakes are pointed out that they only committed a "typo" or they were too busy to proof read.

In short, it's all the usual SOP. "Spittle and Blather" as Ed would typify it (such gentlemanly confabulation).

The one thing that puzzles me though about your statement Duckman, is your continued insistence of using my recent college grades as some sort of put down. Success is suddenly bad? I was proud of my achievement. You gave me an opportunity to brag about it so I did. Your insistence in using it since then, is a biblical lesson of some sort about "pride before a fall" or something? Is it that you're jealous or mad because no one gave you a chance to brag about your grades? Ok then, here is your chance... what grades did you have in college (he asks sincerely)? Give us a chance to go on over your achievements. Share a prized tidbit of your life with us, so that we can give you the acclaim you so rightfully deserve. Give us a chance to say, You The Man!

But haven?t really looked much yet. Given the amount of posts that have been deleted in the past, it may be too hard to find examples. We could just stick with ?your? and ?waist? and the such. Sometimes being overeducated isn?t worth much.

Not the intention at all. I have NEVER had any problem countering your arguments with logic and reason. Never.

... then why did it ever become necessary for you to raise the issue to begin with? I see blatant misspellings from some of your compatriots all the time, yet you never see the need to correct them. Your past conduct belies your innocence in this matter.

This reminds me of the comment you made about the fellow from Spain the other day. You took an opportunity to make a cheap shot, and when you got called on it by me, you then blamed my comment for the reason you refused to apologize for your claimed confusion over the other fellows post.

Thus, it's always someone else's fault with you. Cowboy up for a change, will ya please?

- Collapse -
More bull...
Jul 24, 2007 12:08AM PDT

the only reason it became an issue is that you so often lecture from on high and semi-literate misuse of grammar amuses me when someone is puffing himself as intellectually superior. Others have not boasted that the3y were "over educated". See the irony?

The other thing you cite was an honest and very minor mistake. Others were confused too. My response to you was right on. Wasn't a cheap shot at all, although YOU took one.

But it's always someone else's fault with you.

Try looking self-deprecating up in the dictionary.

Here, I'll do it for you...

If you're gonna quote me then please do so completely. The line was "over-educated red neck". We tend to use down home simile where I come from.

As for your confusion about the fellow from spain? Your statement still does not clarify how my conduct stopped you from apologizing to him? Of course the fact that you even mentioned apologizing to begin with would seemingly indicate you knew you were rude to begin with... which goes back to me calling you on it... and round and round we go.

Sorry, I've been on this ride two many times before. Did you get that DM? I used "two" instead of "to"... oh forget it. Y'all see what you want to see and ignore what's convenient to ignore.

Ciao!

and I do believe you've made that "over-educated " claim more than once. Point is, your accusations are way off the mark again, as usual.

But again you take the "superior" tone. Boring. Not interested. Cowboy up for a change, will ya please?

You can blast away now if you choose. Yaawwwwn...
