Do You Record HD Content in HD?

Mar 8, 2006 7:22AM PST

I know it must be great to have a DirecTiVo, but for those who don't, this question is for you. Do you record HD content in HD? Not, ''Do you record HD content,'' but, ''Do you record HD content in HD?''

If I understand your question...

Not sure I do, foxhound. Is your question speficially to non DVR users or just non TiVO DVR users? I'm not sure how else you could record HD broadcasts without a DVR that supports the resolution (or a Media Center DVR-like equivalent).

My crappy Comcast DVR records HD channels at HD resolution. The HD shows take up more space on my DVR than the same show from the regular D1 (720x486 interlaced) channel. So, there is more data in the HD recording.

Not sure if that's what you were asking, though.

Let Me Clarify...

I just meant to ask if anyone records any HD content (via pvr or other means). For example, I use my Comcast Motorola 6200 to record HD content via firewire.

I just wanted to see who (if anybody) records HD content in HD. I guess my real question was, "Is there any other way to record HD content in HD other than the Motorola "hack" or the DirecTiVo. For example, the Elgato EyeTV 500 can record HD content. Although, as I understand it, it cannot record HD content in the full HD resolution. This is true, no?

I didn't think the Tivo's were capabale of HD recording...

.. at least in HD format. I thought that it would record it, but in SD, because the system software didn't support recording in HD. I thought I remember hearing that somewhere, so don't take it as fact.

Then again, I could just be a blithering idiot too.

Only the DirecTV one

As far as I know only the DirecTV TiVo will do it and only the superexpensive HD version, not the regular version.
