Resolved Question

Do you know how to save all my music back?

Oct 22, 2013 5:28PM PDT

Hello, I have a big problem here and I hope I can find a proper solution here.
I was just in the process of backing up a large music folder from one external hard drive to another external hard drive. But, unfortunately, this original external hard drive accidentally dropped to the ground and then everything was going strangely. Every time I attempted to go on the transformation, a message would pop out and say: "The drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" But, I had not backed up all my music well. So, I cannot directly format it. So, do you think I have to format it? Is it still possible for me to get back all my music after the formatting? Do you have any suggestion?
If you really have some good solutions, please answer me as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance!

Try my steps

Step1. Do NOT click "Yes" to format the drive in case that the formatting process makes things worse.

Step2. Do NOT attempt to write anything new on this hard drive in case of any data loss.

Step3. Download data recovery software to help you. There are many data recovery tools out there. But, no all of them could be efficient and useful enough. You should pay much attention to opt for a proper one.

So, if you are interested, you can firstly try some data recovery freeware available online that always work much more efficiently than some paid ones, such as Recuva, TestDisk and iCare Data Recovery Free, etc.

Step4. Do not save or back up all the restored data on the same hard drive in case of any data loss.

Step5. After the data recovery process, simply format this drive to see whether it can work functionally as before.

In the future, you should learn a lesson to be more careful about your data and always back it up well.

Thank you for you nice answer!
I have followed your steps and tried your data recovery freeware. They all work well, specially the last one that has restored all my data back successfully. Now, I have saved back both of my external hard drive and inner contained data.
Thanks a lot!!!

Well, you can try the programs mentioned in the top 2 posts in http://forums.cnet.com/storage-forum/
With a little bit of luck one of them will work. Be sure not to pay before you know it works!

If no luck, you'll have to pay a data recovery company to do the work.
