Do you have to have ODBC

I am having issues with this area. Do I really need this stuff. dBase Files, Excel Files, Foxpro, I dont even use this stuff except the Word Pad. Dimension 2100 running ME Also it sounds like my computer is making dial-up connections when I use Road Runner cable internet.

Not unless you intend using a data base. All these things you talked about are associated with importing and exporting data.
However, dont just delete these files in explorer - you need to uninstall these options from the program that installed them in the first place (usually something like Microsoft Works or Microsoft Office or one of their components.

I uninstalled microsoft office but this stuff is still there. I uninstalled it 2mos ago.

go to "control panel" then "data sources (ODBC)".
Suggest you do a restore point before removing anything as one of your programs may rely on these drivers..

if you don't use it it's unlikely you experience issues with it. Tell more on that.

Dial-up connections don't come out of the blue. Either you have a socalled dialer (nice software dialing expensive numbers to rob you), which you should remove, or you left a setting somewhere in Internet Options to use a dial-up for connecting. Try downloading Adaware and Spybot (both free) to check for dialers.
