Do the free video codecs include spyware?

Do video codecs like xVid, DivX, ffshow, Matroska, omg, etc. contain some sort of spyware/adware?

Can't be answered. Here's why.

Why the codec usually doesn't, some sites will put some in the download package. To avoid this try DOWNLOAD.COM which not only scans for spyware but has removed some items if we report spyware.
