Do only North Americans honor treaties?

Although Antarctica is protected under a 1959 treaty allowing only scientific research, moves are being made by Argentina, Australia, Britain, China, France, New Zealand and Norway to boost their presence there and lay claim to territorial waters that could yield oil.

Was this "back door" sneak attack being brought up at the G8?

I'm contacting my Congressmen on this one, and our State Department as well.

their way out. It's too bad that the leaders of the United States look down their noses at such efforts.

I have to agree

I hope they all drill and bring up lots of oil. The more oil, the better for everyone.

Think about it

The polar regions were suppose to be left "unmolested" and/or not be cause to enrich the harboring nations other than for science reasons. If they can't resolve it there and now, then the USA should declare the moon as its territory. It goes along the same thinking, as we actually set foot there, which is far better than a dropping of a satellite or lander. You can blame Russia for all this recent maneuvering as they planted a flag on the ocean floor for possible future ocean floor mining for minerals. -----Willy

I won't be around

..., nor will my grandchildren, but perhaps theirs will be when all of this catches up what goes on to the planet.

Some think that considering there is a balance in nature out there is laughable. Of corse, I can't prove that it is not.
