Question

Do I really need dedicated hosting?

Jun 5, 2015 9:14PM PDT

I'm wordpress administer with rather slender experiences.
What I know for sure is that my site will require an online transaction feature in the near future, and since it's now running on a free server I do need to decide on a future hosting service.
It is known that dedicated hosting will offer the best option, but I want to if it's technically doable to use VPS in this case? Any hoops to jump through?

I know I'm pretty much all green to this, so I'd appreciate it a lot if you could share your ideas! TIA!

Answer
VPS should be your first stop before dedicated

It is highly recommended to move to a Cloud VPS or at least a VPS before you hop-on to a Dedicated Server. A VPS offers complete control & security for running your applications while keeping the costs to the minimum.

As you are already a WP admin, you may know how certain server level changes like chaching etc are required for making your application sun smoothly. This task can be achieved with root privileges or with a host which is conditioned for performance & security.

Now a days, there are several Managed Cloud Hosting providers where you get flexibility of Cloud VPS minus the headache of managing the server. They manage everything for you on the server level while you concentrate on your application. This is the best match with minimum costs Happy

Hope this helps!

A VPS would be a good starting point

Mostly because you won't have to share resources with other sites and performance tends to be better. In addition, you'll most likely need an SSL certificate, and getting a dedicated one means you need a dedicated IP, which you usually receive with a VPS.

I would make sure that you get a managed VPS, because you don't want to be responsible for managing and maintaining the server, just your website.

Answer
dedicated server is better for you

Well, VPS is good for online transactions, but it is not the most secure for having a online transaction portal as you still share resources necessary for external communication. Whereas, dedicated servers are known to be the most secure for hosting online transaction applications with no sharing ad full authority and control remains only with you. So, I recommend that going for a dedicated server is better for you.

Try VPS before going for Dedicated

Hi,

We are running wordpress site called Prestige Song of South which runs on siteground server, but we planning to run it on VPS so that it speed up the website and also resource loading will be less, so better go for VPS, it may be costlier but worth it

Go with dedicated

With dedicated you will not have to worry about downtimes because of traffic spikes. Your website will never slowdown or have a downtime because the traffic just shot up. Besides, you will be able to customize the software programs and operating systems you want to install on the server.
