Question

do i need to return my motherboard?

Mar 16, 2016 9:07AM PDT

i recently purchased a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard from Newegg to go with an AMD Phenom II black processor. Processor is brand new and both parts are for a computer build. My problems are: 1) inconsistent recognition of the video input whether onboard or pci card, 2) freezing during POST (it will often freeze at the "verifying DMI pool" screen) or as i'm attempting to install OS, 3) random spontaneous losing of the video feed or shutdown.

The monitors and cords are both viable (VGA) and i have had no other problems with them. The processor was brand new, never been used. i can't even get an OS installed because of these issues and i have only had the motherboard for five days. is this something that can be remedied or did i get a bad board?

Can't answer.

As the remedy is from the motherboard maker I can't tell you this. What I usually do with a new motherboard is update the BIOS before I begin all the work of an OS. The freeze at DMI Pool is now well discussed and seems to be bad hard drives far too often. Next in line are bad motherboards.

hardware change

that's what the DMI freeze indicates. Have you changed some hardware on the computer recently? Overclocked the CPU or bus speed? If that's not it, then short the CMOS at the proper jumper on the motherboard and try again.

You don't need 2 monitors.
Plug 1 into the onboard.
Remove the other.
Remove the video card.

1 stick of ram....remove the rest.

Unplug everything else.

Power up.....you should get a monitor display.
If yes power up and down a few times just to test.
If no use the bios reset and retest.
