Do I need my Static IP

Jul 14, 2008 1:32PM PDT

I don't know much about this but I know I have a Static IP address from AT&T (Pacbell). I was one of the first Pacbell DSL customers in the North Bay and for years now I've had the same Static IP. I now pay about $46.00 a month including taxes and all the other charges they tack on.

Lately I've thought about purchasing a bundle from AT&T for cable, cell, landline and DSL. I know I'll loose the Static IP when I do that but I want to know if it even matters. I've been told that some people lease their Static IP but I don't know how to do that. Also, I've heard that I could do some sort of web hosting but again, don't know how to do that either.

Any good advice out there? Should I hold onto this or cough it up.

Thanks in advance.

Tony

If you are not hosting a site then count your savings.

if all you do is surf the net & email... you don't need to pay as much. if you are hosting your own website you may need a static address

Most people in the world have a Dynamic or leased address.

average DSL costs about $19.99 don't pay any more than that. and dont worry about the money you save. the Gas pumps will take it all anyway Happy
