Question

Do I need an upgrade?

Apr 20, 2017 7:09PM PDT

Hi, I am using 5960x as my cpu but my brother keeps telling me that I need an upgrade to 7700k.

Is it true that 5960x can't handle most 4k gaming (although I don't even do 4k gaming) and not designed for gaming at all so I should sell and switch to 7700k?

My brother's idea is that comparing to 7700k, 5960x will always lag while playing most games out there therefore I should not keep it. (all I do mostly is playing LOL). Is this true??

Please let me know

added to that, he says that 5960x is built for stock market. Is this even true?

The 5960 is a 8 core and 16 threads.
The 7700 is a 4 core and 8 threads.

If you swap you will see a bump in single thread perf.
You will see a drop in multi thread perf, that's assuming you can use 16 threads which most games won't.

Yes the 7700 would be a better fit for gaming but unless your a serious gamer leave it alone.

The 5960 is geared toward folks who want to have bunches of stuff running at the same time or have some app that will use all those threads.
