Do I need A new dvd player?

Hi, Can anyone please tell me why I can't view a store bought movie (dvd)in full screen on my new Vizio? vt470m. I am thinking now that I may need a new dvd player?? I have went through all the set ups numerous times, I still can't figure it out. Do i need a dvd player that has a 1080p option? Please Help!!

I can't find the movie title, the make, model of the DVD player, how it is connected to the HDTV so I can't offer any good ideas.

or maybe just get a bru-ray player if you intend to buy some BD later on. Of course using the tv zoom control would probably make the movie pretty ugly.

How the picture displays will depend on the resolution that the source is sending it (in your case the DVD player) and the resolution that your display is set to.
