Do I need a data plan?

Feb 27, 2011 11:56AM PST

I would like to purchase the LG LOTUS ELITE - Black flip phone. AT&T is my service provider. All I want is text messaging, a flip phone, and a full keyboard. I do not need internet access. Do I have to purchase a data plan through AT&T to use this phone?

Is the phone unlocked/unbranded or are you buying directly from At&t? If you buy it from At&t, a data plan may be required while you have that device active on your account (whether or not you want it).

The LOTUS Elite is a Sprint (CDMA) phone

It won't work on ATT's network. Sorry.

Even if you were w/ Sprint, I'd seriously suggest using something else after testing out a co-worker's LOTUS. Not a quality device by any means.

I suggest one of the unlocked/unbranded Nokia's you can find from Amazon/etc. Try the C6-00, E5-00. The C3-00 is only $99 and would let you have free wifi/no forced data plan on ATT.
