Question

Do I need 512G on the new MacBook?

Apr 9, 2015 7:30AM PDT

Hi. I'm thinking of getting the new 12" MacBook now that my 15" MacBook Pro is on its last legs. I know the entry level is 256G, with a 512G as te step up. My issue is whether the lower storage will be enough now that I am retired and plan to use is for recreation purposes -- email, web browsing, game playing and iTunes usage -- movies, music, TV shows, etc. I use the iloud to store most of that. Thoughts?

Answer
May be fine either way.

My drive is sitting at 208GB full with the OS, files, apps and more. I have software development kits installed for Windows, Android and other systems and a folder for videos that I like to watch on travel.

That leaves me with plenty of more space if I had a 256GB drive. I don't have to keep my video collection there.

What do you use on your current laptop?

I'm now leaning toward the 256G version, thanks. As for what do I use on my current MB Pro, I did list my usage in my original post. Now that I am retired from business I am no longer doing heavy word processing or spreadsheet and PowerPoint work.
