Is it really all that difficult to tell someone how to configure their DNS service in /etc/resolv.conf? I mean really? I will admit that the question asked me be a little hard to get at, since it said setup DNS but this could be either the creating a DNS server (running named) or setting up DNS lookups using resolv.conf for a normal network configuration.
Google is interesting in all but if they wanted google to help them why did they come to the CNET forums? I am going to start removing posts that respond to users in this manner as being off topic.
What are you trying to do? Are you trying to configure a dns setup for your existing network so you can goto sites, or do you want to configure a DNS Server on your system?
We need to know what you are trying to do, if you want to be a client or a server. A clear explanation of what you are trying to accomplish would help us to help you. Also when you are trying to solve a problem, as has repeatedly been pointed out, you may want to try other avenues as well as this is a low volume forum and questions sometimes sit for a couple days before response.
Is it all that hard to just tell them what to do rather than ask further questions?
With all due respect, a proper google can help members find answers quickly and they may learn to fish on their own.

Actually you've all been very helpful. i'm an IT trainee and i was asked to configure dns on redhat linux 9 for a small LAN. This consists of 2 solaris units, 4 microsoft and 1 linux. I believe this network is going to be used to host websites for small businesses. I've set up mail servers, and application servers on MS, but conviguring dns on linux is new and kind of interesting. cheers guys n i'll let u all know how i get on.
