Question

DNS Server Error

Dec 26, 2014 6:45AM PST

Slow internet speeds, error when diagnosing the connection.
Error: Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS Server) Is not responding.

Things I have tried.
using CMD lines to flush and restore dns server confections
Reset and restored router.
Used public DNS servers, comcast ones and Google ones, only worked for 30 minutes then stops (temporary solution)
Completely restored computer
Called comcast (no help)

This is on a windows 8.1 laptop, all other computers in the house work fine and have no troubles

Clarification Request
Did you use the prior discussions?

Yes
Dec 26, 2014 7:26AM PST

Yes I have, I have looked through at least 8 different post on this error, nothing has worked so far.

Then it must be a really messed up machine.
Dec 26, 2014 7:30AM PST

Time to consider Windows 8 resets. Some are mild, the factory reset is a full reset.

That's the issue.
Dec 26, 2014 8:12AM PST

I have already completely reset my computer, a full wipe. That was the last thing I did. I forgot to mention this, but when I connect to other networks it's fine.

So is this machine allowed on your network?
Dec 26, 2014 8:15AM PST

Sometimes it's a setting in the router. Quick test. Connect with Ethernet.

Remember I took your word you completed prior discussions.

It is allowed
Dec 26, 2014 8:19AM PST

I can use the internet, but only 30kbs max. Ethernet I get the same issue with ethernet, I have changed the channel and security on my modem. It's the comcast xfinity arris tg862 by the way.

The DNS Server Error
Dec 26, 2014 8:35AM PST

Is key here. Since this OS as supplied is broke you're back to the beginning calling the machine's maker to see what they screwed up. You did the restore, you completed the usual steps and there's no other security suite or other registry cleaner at play. I normally would go after malware or a hosts entry but you've done all that.

This means the machine has a defect.

Thanks

Alright, I will contact them, thanks for the help.

Forgot a thing.
Dec 26, 2014 8:38AM PST

When we switch to Ethernet we must turn off the PC's WiFi or else.

:(
Dec 26, 2014 9:01AM PST

Ethernet still supplies the same error, thanks again.

Quite the odd duck.
Dec 27, 2014 1:57AM PST

Since no prior discussions/fixes work, the reload of the OS didn't fix it, that only points to a bum OS copy.

I'd start looking at the OS very closely. What DVD did they supply?
