Dec 1, 2003 3:40AM PST

I cannot get online. I loaded Win2000 pro on my system, now I cannot get online. I put in a new ethernet card and laoded the drivers, my internet service had detected the new ethernet dard, yet I keep getting a dns error and not able to get online. Any help for this?

didn't know which was the appropriate one to choose.

Select one and we'll start there.

But at the moment you have no less than four posts in three forums.

You also may have an invalid configuration. If so, then I won't be able to help you.

"Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution."

In another forum you may have given up that you have your DSL/Cable modem connected to some hub and your PC connected to said hub. This is an invalid configuration that I can't fix for people.

I'm sure you could pay the ISP for another IP address, but it's still not a safe way to build a LAN.

Well... let me try to explain it. I have a ethernet card, DLink its a 10/100 card, and a Motorola Surfboard cable modem. The internet provider configured my ethernet card (its a new one) but I still get a dns error. I thought that once they configured it a few hours later I should be fine.. but its not.

What does a command line of IPCONFIG /ALL show?

Tell your full and complete story.

I will not try to dig up every possible scenario that will cause your issue. I hope you can reveal that you are using another machine to connect to the internet and this new doesn't work or such.

You are being very silent on the full story. Your choice, but I can't comment on what I don't know about.

Have you tried pinging a website, and use the IP address in the URL address box on the IE to surf if you can do it that way ?
