FAIR WARNING!!! Due to a bug, the setting may look like it's set to DMA, but you must flip it to PIO and back to DMA as noted in the article.

@anyone:
Hi, I've just recently upgraded from w98 to xp-pro (just this morning, finally!) and it's taking a little getting used-to. The problem I'm having is finding where within XP can I enable DMA (direct memory access) for the harddrive as well as both of the opticals (CD, DVD). I've been all over "device mgr.", used search windows, etc. but came up with only references to the term and some "dead instructions". Is this function (enabling DMA) even IN XP, as far as anyone knows? It's only important to me just to enhance PC-performance and with me being so used-to enabling it in w98 and all. Thanx
