samsung hl-85065w has no picture and no sound. what could cause both problems

Clues are too sparse here. It could be a blown power supply but you again would know if the owner kept the vents and fans clean. Heat kills.

not worth the trouble of fixing. Get a new TV. But for $21, maybe it is worth a try. I remember I had to paid more than 60 buck for the lamp and that was long long time ago (oh the lamp wasn't the problem).
