Maybe it's divx; In that case, you can go to divx.com and download the free divx player. Or download some video codec from zdnet.

hi well, ill look at that, but i don't get on well with the divx player, maybe i downloaded it from a bad source but the last time it carried a virus into the computer. i have been playing with the file and have managed to open it with the vlc player, but i am now trying to transfer it as a vlc compatible file to my memory stick so i can play it on the telly direct, isn't life complicated?

99% of the times it's not that complicated..only if we want to make it so. Cheer.

Did you try SUPER VIDEO CONVERTER (see google.) The download is hard to spot on their page but it's quite good.

Also we have the two step method of:
1. DVD FLICK
2. HANDBRAKE

All the above are free, don't watermark and here never a problem.

Sorry but I'm not keeping current on versions either. It was last year (december but last year) that I did such a conversion and since it worked I didn't bother with checking versions. But here's my thought on that. I use the current versions.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
