Ditching Internet Explorer

Jul 8, 2004 3:23PM PDT

I have been using IE as my only browser of choice for many years. Since IE has a severe case of "contagious diseases" that demands all of ones efforts to avoid, I have decided that it's time for a new browser.
QUESTION?...I am 90% sure that I'm going to install Mozilla. What should I do with IE ; Outlook Exp; & other related microsoft programs ?? Uninstall First B4 dwnlding Mozilla ?? Would appreciate all "DETAILED" guidance in order to make this transistion as smooth & flawless as possible. THANKS!!

My advice is simple.

1. Install and use the alternative browser of your choice so you avoid the new pests.

2. Keep IE updated since it's your only easy way to use Windows Update.

Here, I have Mozilla, the laptop which doesn't do Email is Firefox'd (be sure to always have latest versions) and the kid's machines are also on Firefox. The default browser on all the machines is not IE.

In order to keep my kids or guests from using IE, I've deleted all but the one IE icon on the Programs menu in XP and renamed the Firefox icon on my Desktop "Internet" so that people know what it is. Have not touched IE for over a week now and love tweaking FF with extensions and themes!! The best so far is Cookie Culler which lets you select and save particular cookies and Spellbound which just spellchecked this message. Just switched to Thunderbird for email....that looks as if it will take a little more getting used to. Enjoy.
