Question

Displayport to HDMI cable

Dec 16, 2014 1:20AM PST

Hello I have a quick question. I am not to informed on Displayport and HDMI so I am asking for help. I have a computer that outputs display port single mode and I need to convert it to HDMI. So far the adapters I bought and found online require a D++ or dual mode port. My question is will the cable linked below convert a single mode displayport to HDMI? Also will this have the capability of outputting to 4K?

Thank you in advanced you help is much appreciated.

Sorry, too many missing details.

I can't find the make/model of the things in play here. Or what's the goal. For example one machine I used a newer USB 3.0 to HDMI so they could play movies.

It's a bit of a stretch. Since you didn't find any working cable, I'm going to write to try one of those USB 3.0 to HDMI video cards.

About the adapters I have used
Dec 16, 2014 1:35AM PST

Upon further investigation all the adapters require a dual mode display port connection so I guess my question is does anyone know if this belkin cable I linked is single mode?

Belkin can answer that

Answer
D++?

Never heard of that before. I wonder if it's the connector for the 4K (just thinking out loud).

Displayport came about as a royalty free alternative to HDMI
Dec 16, 2014 5:05AM PST

Since HDMI would incur royalties there was no attempt to make it compatible.

Royalty can go nuts.

Apple wigged out over their magnet power jack. Great idea, but Apple freaked out when more did it. Microsoft used it on their Surface tablets.

If you dive into HDMI.org, you learn you can't use it without paying.
