displaying webpages

Is there a way to update the fonts in firefox 3 for ubuntu 8.04 to get web pages to display in a similar way to windows?

It's more of an ease on eyes/eye strain reliever.

thanks

Which browser?

Which Windows browser are you talking about? IE 6 and Firefox should display similarly to Ubuntu. IE 7 uses really bad (IMHO) anti-aliasing that causes more eye strain and slower reading.

You can go to System > Preferences > Appearance and then click the Fonts tab, and mess around with the rendering settings there. If you change "Hinting" to "None" or "Slight", you get a *very* anti-aliased look.

If you're talking about the fonts themselves, you can install the package "msttcorefonts", which will give you the Microsoft fonts.

"webpage fonts are different in firefox 3 running in ubuntu than firefox 3 in windows"

THAT statement is also your clue on what to do next. Get the fonts you want to use in the OS you want first. Then adjust the browser to use those fonts.
