I have Journey to the Center of the Earth in Blu-Ray and it came with a 3D version and the cheesy glasses but I must say after removing the color film from the carboard glasses it came with and putting them in a frame from a cheap pair of reading glasses (lenses removed) that it looked pretty good in a dark room.
You can buy good 3D glasses and that might make the effects even better, but to me it is still more of a novitly than anything else.
But yes, conventional 3D effect movies rendered with colored glasses work fine on at least my HDTV, it is Plasma, I suspect it will work on any kind.
Can a HDTV display video in 3D? (playing a 3D DVD and wearing 3D glasses)
