Display settings change opening WORD2003

When I open WORD2003 my display settings change from 800X600 32bit to 800X600 8bit, making the screen appear as a negative image. When I close it the settings revert back to 32bit and while it is open, I can manually change it back but, that is an unbelieveable hassle.

I have posted in Office forum without getting a response. Perhaps it is OS(XP) related? It is driving me crazy and nothing works to fix it.

Does anyone here have an idea??

The most probable cause is the shortcut. Right click the Word2003's shortcut, select Properties and click the Compatibilty Tab. See if the box for 256 colors is checked. If so, uncheck it.
