display requirements for Blu-ray?

Jan 10, 2008 11:28PM PST

So I'm still not sure about what I need to play HD discs on my PC. I have an HDCP-enabled (or is the term "compliant"?) display but it has only DVI-in, not HDMI-in. If I were to get say that new Sony SATA internal Blu-ray BD-ROM drive, could I play Blu-ray discs to my display or not?

From my understanding.

You will also need an HD compatible video card as well.

That means "most PC cards."

HD is just 1080 pixels so most of use can do that. The place I see failures is where they don't have the right player software.

Ok, good.

I would guess that a Blu-ray drive for a PC would bundle some software to play the discs but whatever. My nVidia 8400GS should be able to handle it as far as the graphics card goes.

Thanks.

I am encountering to many with drive and no Bluray/HD player software. They "hoped" and "guessed" it would work...
