Display Driver has stopped working and has recovered

Jul 2, 2010 9:39AM PDT

Installed new Printer Epson Workforce 40, Driver downloaded from EPSON, tried to print and when PRINT PREVIEW appeared....the screen went black, after three seconds it came back on with the notice in the bottom right corner "Display Driver had stopped and recovered successfully. I have an All-in-One 24 inch Touchscreen VPCL117FX von Sony. Windows 7 on a 64-bit. Same printer works on Vista Ultimate 64-bits. Sony Tech could not help. I have checked Forums all over and it seems that Thousands of Windows 7 users have the same Problem and no solution to it. It seems to happen with NVidia graphic video cards, ATI video cards. Have Photo RX620 Printer installed on the same computer and it works without a problem. But that is an older model, shows as being windows 7 64-bit Edition compatible and Epson Status Monitor and Print Preview are not downloaded.
Most have this problem when they play games. I can play a movie without problem. Perhaps someone can come up with an solution.

Might be Microsoft's Fault

This has happened to me too, before, excepts while using a Java applet. It only happens on Windows Vista, so it might be a problem only Microsoft can solve.

It's happened to me on occasion

but the recovery worked fine.

The question has to be, does this still happen every time you go to Print Preview? or was this just a one-off?

If you haven't rebooted, (restarted), the system since installing this driver, try rebooting before attempting to preview a print.

print preview crashes video card
Jul 9, 2010 2:51PM PDT

I installed Printer Workforce 40's Driver several times and uninstalled it. Cleaned all files from Computer. And it happens every time I leave the checkmark in PRINT PREVIEW. First time it will crash the whole system. It recovers and the next time it will only crash the video card. I called Epson and told them to take a lock in to that version of driver you have to use if you are running windows 7 64 bit and has to be downloaded from the Epson site. No Driver for Windows 7 on the Install CD. Same Printer works with checkmark in Print Preview without a problem on Vista 64bit. But I have an older driver on there, which is only for Vista. NVIDIA card on both computers.
I have contacted Epson and spoke to a tech in the upper level. He will turn it over to a team who will test the Print Preview file. Hopefully somebody will finally provide an answer in to why so many printers crash when the checkmark is in Print Preview.
