Question

Display Driver

Sep 2, 2012 12:57AM PDT

I got a bit of a problem,,,,,,,,,,,

Here's my present scenario..........I can be rocking along reading and the monitor just goes black but will come back in a few seconds if I tap on the space bar.If I am actively doing something this doesn't happen.

If I don't tap on the space bar after a time I will get a dialog box that says the DISPLAY DRIVER has quit working but has corrected it'sself ,,,,, a cuss word or two and a space bar tap always gives it a temporary fix.

Whats going on with this and is there a permanent fix?

It's a shame the machine details are not supplied. I usually find this to be an issue if the owner has updated a video driver from Microsoft so without any details about the PC I can only write about the most common issue which I fix by going back to when it worked.

Your 'present scenario' seems to be a setting in Control Panel>Power Options settings, as described in
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms700612%28v=vs.85%29.aspx.

And the issue about the display driver failure seems to be that it doesn't handle the return from that situation correctly. I'd go back to when it still worked (as Bob says), or see if an updated driver is available for your video card at the makers site.
