Diskeeper 9.0 Pro problem in Win2000

Feb 3, 2005 5:32AM PST

I bought a copy of Diskeeper 9.0 Pro and installed in on a Win2000 machine. When I tried to bring it up, I got this error message: "Diskeeper could not initialize as a listener. Please see Event Log for more details." The short printed user guide had no reference to event log, but the detailed user guide on the CD offered some help. It said to go to My Computer, select Manage, then System Tools, then Event Viewer, then Application, then Action, then Properties. In properties, set Max Log Size to 2048 KB and enable Overwrite Events as Needed, then select OK. I did this but still got the same error message. I went through the rest of the detailed user guide and found nothing that seems to address this problem. Thanks for any help.

diskeeper 9 "Will not initialize as a listener"

We have found that some systems may have a restriction in the registry that
does not allow administrator access to the Diskeeper registry keys. Here's
how to allow administrator access to the Diskeeper registry keys:

Before you begin any editing of the registry, always update your emergency
repair disk (ERD).

1) From the Desktop, click START, then RUN
2) Type REGEDT32 for the command and click OK
3) Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on local machine, double click SOFTWARE
4) Highlight EXECUTIVE SOFTWARE
5) With NT 4 or Windows 2000, In the Menu Bar, click SECURITY, then
PERMISSIONS
6) With Windows XP, In the Menu Bar, click EDIT, then PERMISSIONS
7) Highlight ADMINISTRATOR
Cool Set TYPE OF ACCESS to FULL CONTROL
9) Click the Advanced button
10) Select the checkbox to cause the permissions to be propagated to sub
keys
11) Select OK modify the permissions
12) Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on local machine, Double click SYSTEM
13) Double click CurrentControlSet
14) Double click Services
15) Highlight DISKEEPER
16) With NT 4 or Windows 2000, In the Menu Bar, click SECURITY, then
PERMISSIONS
17) With Windows XP, In the Menu Bar, click EDIT, then PERMISSIONS
1Cool Highlight ADMINISTRATOR
19) Set TYPE OF ACCESS to FULL CONTROL
20) Click the Advanced button
21) Select the checkbox to cause the permissions to be propagated to sub
