disk consistency problem with XP

by PhillyStudMuffin / May 13, 2006 11:50 AM PDT

I am having a problem.I installed the XP upgrade with sp2.After the os was installed I could not connect to the internet to register the product.I have a cable modem for a high speed connection. From time to time I have to unplug and reboot the modem and restart the computer(Gateway)n order to get the connection to work properly. After installing the XP upgrade I shut down the computer and unplugged the modem. When I restarted the computer the Gateway statrtup screen came up then a blank screen and then the Windows XP startup screen. After the XP startup screen a blue screen comes up with a message saying check file system on C:.Then a message saying file consistency problem file system FAT32.Then several lines saying something about renamed to change, convert lost chains to files. This task finishes and the computer automatically reboots and the same events happen. The computer keeps doing this even if I press a key to stop Windows from from doing the Disk scan.
