Is this a Pentium 4 laptop?

It's a common problem. Here's what happens. Disk cleanup in it's stock form will make a test run of "compress old files." This is CPU intensive and many older Pentium 4 laptops will overheat and reboot on this step.

Fix? Fix the laptop. Have the CPU Heatsink and Fan cleaned (many never maintain their units), and in some cases the heatsink needs to be reattached. A laptop cooling pad sometimes helps.

Yes you make sense, I think its over heat sometimes. Should I take it to repair shop and have the fan cleaned or is it possible I can do it myself...

Cleaning and dust off the fan didnt work
by Dittoman1 / January 30, 2006 11:40 AM PST

I took the fan out of my laptop and cleaned, it seems clean anyhow. I air blow everything I see and put it back. Try Disk clean, ....freezed again...I freezed when I do disk clean, defrag, disk check etc...
Thanks Ron
