Dish HDTV

Mar 25, 2005 2:01AM PST

Has it been more than rumored that Dish will soon expand it's feeble HD schedule? I understand there are many stations now broadcasting in HD but TNT seems the only one that dish offers? Am I wrong???

HD on Dish
Mar 25, 2005 5:51AM PST

It has been written that Dish bought Voom's satellite with the intent to of course add more HD content, but I've also read that they intend to use the satellite to add the digital feed of local stations in major markets. Yes they carry TNT, they also have Discovery HD Theater, HD NET and HD Net Movies, Showtime and HBO, but all in all a pretty weak lineup that hasn't been upgraded in a while.

That is correct, on the $45 a month, BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jul 29, 2005 1:46PM PDT

I am planning on doing just that!!! Getting ''VOOM'', along w/HDTV! The BUT, I was reffering to is;$45 plus what ever your paying for a package deal also! Which I am! For everything. And It's a WHOPPING $85 on top of the $45!!!!!!!!! So, ya see, that little amount, turns out being A LOT!!! On top of that, I think on one of those TV's, I will have to either rent or buy a set top box & another dish for HD signal. Acording to the ''dish network's web site.. I'm in the process of buying my first Hi def-TV! Either the Samsung ''HL-P5087'' or the ''JVC HD-52Z575'', which I'm favoring!!!! I am also checking the new receivers from JVC to match my TV. Either one of the RX models or the TH-C4 @ a 1,002 watts!!!! Does anybody have any suggestions on any of those A/V systems or either of the TV's, It would be most helpful in making these tuff decisions that are countless when a guy is strapped for the long green! I am glad I got to read your comment....

HERE IS THE SCOOP ON THE DISH 811
Aug 23, 2005 6:24AM PDT

Yess $45.00 per month , this is my set up I have a SONY 65" h.d. t.v. 811 and a denon 2910 d.v.d. player I replaced the componit vidio cables from my 811 and d.v.d player to d.v.i. cables with a GIFIN d.v.i. switcher so the sat and d.v.d. picture is stunning, anyway I have Voom + h.d. package from DISH , the DISH 811 also has an awsome over the air h.d. tiner so I threw up a cheap outside antenna and I receive 18 local San Francisco digital channels 9 of which are in hi-def that gives me about 20 hi-def channels also the 811 has optical audio output so your going to have dobley digital sound with all your hi-def Just make sure you replace the componit vidio cables that come with the 811 and buy the d.v.i cable, and if your d.v.d. player looks nasty get one with d.v.i. output and use a d.v.i. switcher If you order dish ? give them this number cdo015387045 2081491 this wil give you everything free plus I get $5.00 of my bill for a year good luck you may e mail me at cadillacstew@aol.com

Just talked to a Dish Network rep
Jul 29, 2005 5:03AM PDT

She told me that now external antenna would be needed to receive local HD programming. Is there any truth to this? Is the built in antenna in the set top box going to yeild any local stations?

Some of the digital satellite receivers also have an input plug for an external OverTheAir antenna. Don't get a set-top box until you check that out.
