... but how about we just wait and see.

I watched it as released by CBS 60 minutes II Wednesday night. They spent quite a bit of time showing different photos, and interviews with a Brig. General and one of Sergeants who was in the "Reserves" not trained in the Geneva Convention rules on the treatment of prisoners. Yes, it is appalling how a human can treat another human.

The act was disgusting, you're right.
No excusing it, and all the other unknown ones throughout history that happen under war conditions.
And it gives those that already dislike us plenty to fan prejudice against us.
Perhaps I'm reading too much into your statement ... how many nice words the Administrations comes up with.
But based on your often repeated undying distrust of this Administration (and apparently of most of America), this sounds like disbelieve in the expressions of outrage and regret. I suppose this is another example of "Bush LIES" to many.
Yeap, an outrage that will be use to justify many more. I wonder how much will be condemn around the world when it is reversed. Sort of like the security man dragged and hung and the video released. Where was the world condemnation then?
I certainly hope nothing like this happens again, it shouldn't have the first time. But this was under investigation and charges filed as I understand before the news coverage even started. Of course, nothing will matter to those that can use it to fan US hatred but the sad fact of it's existence. They'll be gleeful with the ammunition this give them to condemn us and to stir up trouble.

just of HEAR about something like this, much less find yourself torturing and humiliating somebody. Listen, if something like that didn't happen to you it may be time for you to do the gene pool a favor and lean into the pitch and take one for the team! You know what I mean? KILL YOURSELF! And standing by watching is not that much better. Peer pressure is a powerful, persuasive and inevitable thing, but I mean DAMN!
I've got this idea that being a relatively good Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc. isn't quite the same thing as being a relatively good person, because it's not just the numbers. Be a good person. Religion lets you wear a cloak, and all you have to do is not squirm to much. There really are bigger and smaller sins. Call it moral relativism if you must. Man, it sure is easy to ride the supposedly high and mighty religious moral doctrine of the group and then turn right around and 'make small' awful behaviors as inevitable because it's "nature". Seems to me that sins against, even "subhumans" are no less sins. In a way, when you commit a sin, you commit it against yourself. I think that that's why it's so important to check ones very own morals, your gut, and not just slide along on the approval of any group. I don't care what indoctrination you've been subjected to, if you find yourself thinking of ANYONE as subhuman or not deserving of The Golden Rule, just kill yourself. Please. And don't coddle others that think that way.
Anyone posting on this thread, and there was a "but... " in there, you should be ashamed.
... is what being a good Christian, or Jew or Muslim is all about. There will always be extremists on all sides, but the vast majority of the religious are not committing such acts in the name of their religion and I HIGHLY doubt these misguided guards were doing so. Perhaps they were having a little fun at turnaround and got carried away. I am NOT excusing that, just pointing out that faced with what they may or may not have seen of how Saddam treated prisoners and/or how their fellow soldiers were treated by Iraqis, they might have just been being all too human (with all the failings that go with it) after all ![]()
The important difference is that they will be dealt with accordingly because in the end we play by the rules even when others don't ... or at least we do our best.

<close eyes>A beach. And a stream running through the palms and mangos into the blue blue lagoon. White breaking surf on the reef in the distance and no one for miles and miles. A flight of pelicans diving in formation and frigates among the coconuts in the treetops.<keep eyes closed>
