Discuss Dynamic Disks

Jan 28, 2005 12:04AM PST

I would like to see a discussion of using dynamic vs basic disks under Windows XP. I already know dynamic disks are not readable under older OSs and that one cannot revert to basic disks without losing data. Other than these, what if any are drawbacks to using dynamic disks? What are the advantages, especially what advantages are there in using a simple dynamic disk. Please relate any experiences you have had personally using this feature.

All bad.

My experiences are all from people bringing me their dynamic disk problems. I see no reason to use it.

Do you?

Not abtle to partition
Oct 9, 2010 5:45PM PDT

I tried to partition my drive (containing OS) by using disk management. after shrinking the drive, when I try to create a new volume from the unallocated space I get the following message:

"Dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system"

However i don't want to convert from basic to dynamic it gives me the warning that it(unallocated space) will be converted to dynamic if I want to create a new volume. All I want is a separate partition to store data.

I am using genuine windows 7 home basic. i3 processor-370m, ddr3 3gb ram, and trying to partition my 220gb c drive
