Some weeks ago Gmail advised me that Tiscali did not meet latest security features and would therefore not accept e-mails from it unless I over road the restriction - I did. Now when I send an e-mail from my Gmail account to a Tiscali address (either one of my own or friends) I get an error message saying that Tiscali is not responding.
Does anyone know what is going on and how to get round it?

I do not like using on-line e-mail systems as I find them more cumbersome than POP3 on windows live mail (I can receive gmail through WLM using IMAP but have not found a way to send!). I still think they are less secure eg Gmail have issued name.name@gmail.com to me and namename@gmail.com to someone else but then send namename@gmail.com e-mails to me (and possibly my e-mails to the other person). Also many more of my friends with Hotmail or Gmail addresses have their contact lists hacked and used for scams etc than others.

Here I use Thunderbird and Outlook 2003 (office supplies that!) but all email is online. Unsure if you meant web based email.

I do not like having to go to a web-site and sign on before accessing my e-mail system - is this "web-based email"? eg Gmail and Hotmail as already mentioned!
You or others don't seem to have commented on my other points.

And only had to use the web to sign up but never use the web access method except on rare occasions.. Hotmail has "issues" that I don't want to deal with so I can't write about that.
So how about that?

This is an old issue where email services bicker and you find things not working.
Tiscali has to answer how to override both directions.

Do you know if there is any truth in Gmail's claim that Tiscali's security is out of date?
TalkTalk have just posted a notice that they are having problems with both TalkTalk and Tiscali addresses - so perhaps it will be sorted.
