Disc fragmenter

by Ann bradshaw / October 28, 2004 7:55 PM PDT

I have windows 98 and am having problems with speed of loading when Pc is switched on. A friend advised me to fragment the c drive, however when I have accessed the system tool to do this - it appears to be working but stays at 0% and nothing happens. Any advice please?

Ann

WIndows Disk defrag is slow, real slow. Their is an icon that has little blocks flying at it. If the blocks are flying, disk defrag is working. Depending on the number of files on your hard drive expect 1 to 3 hours to complete.

Disk defrag should also be run in Safe Mode
with the Screen Saver off.

At boot press F8 about once a second. This will bring a boot option menu. Use arrow keys to select Safe Mode and press the enter key.

Hi,
It is the control key not F8.
Also the file name is defrag.exe
You might have to install that .

You must turn off your screen saver.
First use "Cont, Alt., Delete to shut down all running programs but SysTray and Explorer, then right click on empty spot on Desktop then on dropdown menu left click properties, then left click on Screen Saver Tab and scroll down or up to Find "None" and left click it to highlight it, then left click "apply" and left click "close", then run Defrag.
It should run to the end of its program normally
