You can google DV9000 recalls to figure it out but if the drive does not show in the BIOS screen then it's repair is unlikely. On other machines I would suggest replacing the drive but for dv6000/9000, tx1000s I suggest you get some USB DVDRW to stand in.

Hi there, I have suddenly had problems with my computer recognizing my CD drive. It is not in Device Manager. I ran two different "fix it"s from Microsoft to no avail. According all I have tried, there is no drive. I took the drive out and reseated it; nada. I have restored to an ealier date when I knew it was working; nada. (I just installed a program about 1 week ago successfully). I have seen that there might be conflictions with the latest Vista update, but I am not sure what to do to remedy it othere than the before mentioned Fixits. So I reinstated the update. I am a bit peeved that the average user runs into these problems. It is very frustrating. I am not a total computer dummy, but am a bit put off if MicroSoft releases an "important" update and doesn't cover the possible problems for ppl that are not constantly tweeking their comptuers. BTW that disc that worked a week ago will not work now. I am hoping someone can help me out. Step by Step. I am running Vista sp2 on an HP dv9815nr notebook. 3 gigs of ram, AMD turion 64x2 Mobile technology TL-60 2.0 GHz. I dont know if you need other info, but will provide that if you would need it. Thanks: a disheartened K
