Disc check problem

Nov 22, 2010 11:17AM PST

I have a new MSI 785GTM-E45 with an AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2 GHz Black edition with 4 Gigs of ddr2 ram. Primary HD is a WD 372 GB( 360G used 11.6Gs free) NTFS format. Secondary HD is a seagate 120Gs ATA. Im running windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. My problem happened when I ran a disc check with recover bad sectors. After the disc check finished my computer restarted and my primary hard drive was full. I tried system restore and nothing. How can I fix this without having to reinstall windows. I thank you for your time and assistance.

I'd boot my UBUNTU CD (see google) and look around the drive for something to move or delete to free up space.

We have to use other tools. Bootable CDs let us in to free up space so Windows can boot.

Sorry.

I noted the bootable CD that I use in my first reply. It does not require any new skills (you just mouse around and click just like Windows) and you don't have to install it!

That's a little vague.

You started with a 372GB unit....total
360GB used.
11.6GB free.
You ran chkdsk.

What is the total reported HD size now?
What is the used space now?
What is the free space now?

If the total size has shrunk.....you've got a problem.

Why did you get into chkdsk with the "R" switch?
Most folks don't go there.

It was actually 400 Gbs to start with. After the installation of win 7 it came out to some thing like 360. I am always cleaning and trying to make my system faster. Ive been running win 7 since it came out and this is the first problem I have had. I have a total of 13.9 Gbs left of free space.
