General discussion

disappearing window

Feb 28, 2005 6:15PM PST

Recently, while surfing on all kinds of sites, my browser window (IE6) began to disappear every now and then while the dialup remains connected. On my desktop, my OS is Win2K-Pro. And this especially seems to happen while I'm logged in to various websites, usually requiring that I open the browser back up so that I can log out of the site I'd been on.
What may be causing the browser to disappear, and how can I fix it?

We have spyware.

One of the common spyware issues is just as you described. It's partly the reason why so many are considering or using Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape and other browsers.

As you may have read, Microsoft is not going to update IE 6 for Windows 2000. So start researching what you will be using soon.

disappearing window

Is there any way that a spyware detector can fix this problem? I've already got SpyBot-S&D, Ad-Aware, Prevx, and the MicroSoft AntiSpyware. But the MS AntiSpyware is the one in my tray at this time.

If this problem of disappearing windows can be taken care of with a detector, which one would you recommend? Or if its actually a highjacking, would the CW Shredder fix it?

Spyware scanners didn't work
Mar 11, 2005 3:07PM PST

To follow the instructions from Help2Go, I ran complete scans with Spybot-S&D, Ad-Aware, Microsoft Antispyware, CWShredder, and a few other security scanners, but the browser window still keeps closing while I'm in the middle of things such as checkouts and downloads.

I guess I'll go to the Security forum now and look/ask for a solution.

Step through Fred Langa's "BrowserTune2000" test to see what comes out in the wash.
