Disappearing Dock

Feb 16, 2006 6:45PM PST

I have an IMAC at work currently with OSX.3. It is a G3 and I have problems with the dock disappearing on it's own. I have uninstalled OSX.2 and re-installed X.3 to see if that would help but no go. When the system is rebooted, it's there but after awhile it disappears. It doesn't matter what the settings are for dock preferences. We have/had about 20+ Imacs at work but this is the only one that does this. Any clues?
Thanks

After it disappears,

how do you get it back again?
Did the problem exist when you had 10.2 installed?
What version of 10.3 are you using?
How did you uninstall 10.2 and reinstall 10.3?
Reinstall would indicate that 10.3 was there at some time but, and I may be missing something here, you say that you uninstalled 10.2 to reinstall 10.3.
Did you miss something out or is it just too early in the morning to solve the puzzle?

disappearing dock update
Feb 17, 2006 4:09AM PST

I was at home when trying to write the post, here is some additional information:
the computer is an IMAC G3 500mhz currently running 10.3.8. I had the problem with 10.2 first and thought that upgrading to 10.3 might solve the problem but no help. I believe that when prompted on the installation of 10.3 that I selected to overwrite the previous OS (as opposed to updating).
The only thing that will get the dock back is doing a reboot. It will then be present for varing amounts of time and then disappear again.
Thanks.

I'm going to assume you have already run the Disk Permissions repair so, let's try a quick Archive and Install, with 10.3, and see if the problem continues on.
All your data will be safe.
Of course, if the DP has not been run, that might be an idea first
